The SPRINT-project aims to develop a Global Health Risk Assessment Toolbox to assess

impacts of Plant Protection Products (PPPs) on environment and human health and to

propose several transition pathways

The SPRINT-project aims to develop a

Global Health Risk Assessment Toolbox

to assess impacts of Plant Protection Products (PPPs)

on environment and human health

The SPRINT project will make an internationally valid contribution to assess integrated risks and impacts of pesticides on environment and human health, both at regional and European level. SPRINT will inform and accelerate the adoption of innovative transition pathways towards more sustainable plant protection in the context of a global health approach.

Save the date! SPRINT to present at UN Science Summit

New_Safe_the_Date_UNAGA.jpg

Following the success of last year's event, SPRINT will be presenting again at this year's UN General Assembly Science Summit (UNGA 79).

Register here: https://sciencesummitunga.vfairs.com/en/registration-form/

When? September 16th, 09:00-11:00 (EST) = 15:00-17:00 (CET)

Where? New York and online (link to follow).

What? This session will present the impacts of pesticides on both ecosystem and human health, with a particular focus on:

1) Ecotoxicological tests on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems

 2) Organoid and gut microbiome studies

 3) Lab-based experiments with rats and mice.

Join us to hear the latest on the impacts of pesticides on ecosystem and human health.

New SPRINT factsheet: Pesticide residues and human health hazards compared against EU classifications

Summaries template 1

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new SPRINT summary factsheet, which is based on a recent paper by several SPRINT partners.

This factsheet provides some key findings from the human health-related data, including from crop and indoor dust samples, with the main hazards focused on including cancer and endocrine disruption. Access the summary factsheet by clicking here.

Pesticides and their breakdown products found in rural air: new factsheet out now.

Pesticides in rural air

The latest addition to our series of paper summaries is out now. Recently published research by SPRINT partner Freya Debler and team forms the basis of the facsheet, which tells a striking story about the presence of pesticide residues in rural air. Most samples contained mixtures of residues, not dissimilar to what we find in food and water samples. However, unlike residues in food and water, airborne pesticide residues are not accounted for when calculating the maximum levels people can safely be exposed to day-to-day. Read more about Freya and team's findings by clicking here.

New SPRINT paper: pesticide residues in European sediments

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new paper in Environmental Research, entitled 'Pesticide residues in European sediments: A significant concern for aquatic systems?'. Stay posted for an upcoming summary factsheet!

The Project

logo sprint h200

SPRINT aims to develop a Global Health Risk Assessment Toolbox to assess impacts of plant protection products (PPP) on ecosystem, plant, animal and human (EPAH) health.

The SPRINT method

Rings

SPRINT consists of 9 interlinked work packages. The distribution and the impacts of PPP on EPAH health will be evaluated at 11 case study sites (CSS)

Measure and Model

Measure

PPP pathways, and direct and indirect animal and human exposure routes will be assessed to improve current fate, exposure, and toxicokinetic models

Stakeholders

stakeholders

SPRINT is based on a multi-actor approach to engage stakeholders and identify needs, improving farmer and citizen awareness, joint development of novel strategies for reduced reliance on PPP use.

Funding

SPRINT Project is funded by

the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Programme for research & innovation under grant agreement no 862568
