The SPRINT-project aims to develop a Global Health Risk Assessment Toolbox to assess

impacts of Plant Protection Products (PPPs) on environment and human health and to

propose several transition pathways

The SPRINT-project aims to develop a

Global Health Risk Assessment Toolbox

to assess impacts of Plant Protection Products (PPPs)

on environment and human health

The SPRINT project will make an internationally valid contribution to assess integrated risks and impacts of pesticides on environment and human health, both at regional and European level. SPRINT will inform and accelerate the adoption of innovative transition pathways towards more sustainable plant protection in the context of a global health approach.

Vacancy PhD position: Unraveling the impacts of pesticide mixtures on ecosystem health (Portugal)

Are you looking for a PhD position in the field of  pesticide mixtures on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem health? Then this might be an oppurtunity for you!

Under the scope of the European Project – SPRINT (https://sprint-h2020.eu/ ), the main objective is to assess the effects of PPP mixtures on the ecosystem health. Based on more realistic scenarios, the specific objectives of this proposal are: (i) to evaluate the ecotoxicological effects of PPP mixtures found in distinct crop systems across Europe on native terrestrial and aquatic species; (ii) to assess the extent to which the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems retain their natural function and so have the capacity to deliver a range of services.

The PhD position will be in The Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) - Portugal

Think4Food's Call4Ideas Award for Daria Sgargi

Great news! Daria Sgargi a SPRINT researcher in the "Biostatistics" Operational Unit of the Ramazzini Institute, has won the dedicated research award of Think4Food's Call4Ideas. Think4Food is the project that connects  cooperative enterprises and start-ups, researchers and university students to promote sustainable development in the agri-food sector.

Daria Sgargi was awarded for her work in the SPRINT project. There were 94 participants in Call 4 Talents and Call 4 Ideas, with projects from Bologna, Italy and even abroad. The themes of this year's award-winning projects were: circular economy, waste reduction, and advanced research to protect consumer health, confirm that innovation and sustainability are two key drivers of development for the entire agrifood cooperative supply chain.

We would like to congratulate Daria on behalf of the whole consortium!

More information can be found on the local website (IT).

Celebrating World Soil Day: SPRINT soil-based experiments

sprint soil experiments

Agricultural pesticides are often applied on or close to soils. As a result, pesticide residues are often present in soils to varying extents. This makes it important to build an understanding of how these residues may affect the health of both the soil and the species that live within it. Understanding how pesticides affect the health of soil-dwelling organisms is of great importance to us here at SPRINT and is one of our key areas of research.

The Project

logo sprint h200

SPRINT aims to develop a Global Health Risk Assessment Toolbox to assess impacts of plant protection products (PPP) on ecosystem, plant, animal and human (EPAH) health.

The SPRINT method

Rings

SPRINT consists of 9 interlinked work packages. The distribution and the impacts of PPP on EPAH health will be evaluated at 11 case study sites (CSS)

Measure and Model

Measure

PPP pathways, and direct and indirect animal and human exposure routes will be assessed to improve current fate, exposure, and toxicokinetic models

Stakeholders

stakeholders

SPRINT is based on a multi-actor approach to engage stakeholders and identify needs, improving farmer and citizen awareness, joint development of novel strategies for reduced reliance on PPP use.
